Hertha Berlin pulled off a fairly surprising result against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this afternoon, winning 2-1 at the Olympiastadion.
However, Thomas Tuchel’s side should have been awarded a default victory in the 90th minute when Hertha defender Mitchell Weiser resorted to laughably pathetic subterfuge in an attempt to get Ousmane Dembele booked.
Attempting to hoof the ball away to waste time, Weiser caught Dembele right in front of the referee and then, in blind panic, flopped to the floor with a spectacular flourish of his very own…
Look at this shit. Mitchell Weiser from #berlin. Cmon, be a man. He needs to get punched in the face. #dortmund vs #berlin #soccer #futbol pic.twitter.com/iOkRm01fHl

Both players were cautioned in the aftermath, though Weiser’s histrionics were definitely worthy of a straight red and a 10-match ban in Pies’ book.
We’ve said it before and we’ll no doubt say it again: Football is fundamentally broken.
