Bulgarian top flight side Lokomotiv Sofia have seen fit to cancel the contract of midfielder Martin Dimitrov over incredibly weird allegations made by head coach Stefan Genov, that the 26-year-old chose to go mud-bathing instead of playing against reigning champions Ludogorets back on 15th December.

Dimitrov, who has represented Lokomotiv 39 times since joining the club in 2012, did not feature in the 4-0 away defeat and was told that his services would no longer be required after the game when Genov made his strange accusations via the media.

A bemused Dimitrov told BGsport:

“I knew from the media that I’d been released. Later (Lokomotiv director) Christian Dobrev called me and told me Genov is not going to count on me for the future.

“Genov told Dobrev he wanted me to play in the match with Ludogorets but according to him I refused in order to go mud bathing.

“This is not something any professional footballer would ever say. I’m hurt because this is my childhood club.”

There’s definitely a “muddying the waters” joke in there somewhere. Feel free to extract it at your own leisure.

(Much love to @rostislavchanev for the tip-off)
