“Get Stefano off, he’s having a bloody ‘mare”
Here at Pies, we’re not ones for panning David Moyes at every turn – in fact, we’re really rooting for him to succeed at Real Sociedad as we genuinely think he showed an impressive bit of moxey to go and try his hand in La Liga’s upper-middle reaches.
Anyway, Moyes’ first game in charge of Sociedad was a 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruna and while the result was perfectly serviceable, a few swatches of behind-the-scenes footage compiled by Canal+ show that the former Manchester United boss had a job on remembering a few of his new players’ names.
As well as having to query with his bench whether or not he was looking at Chori Castro, Moyes displayed an admirably stout British-gent-abroad mentality when struggling to get a message across to his midfielders, simply opting to call everyone “Stefano” in a bid to get their attention…
A cursory glance at the Real Sociedad squad list reveals there are no Stefanos, with Esteban Granero suspected to be the intended target of his hollering.
Meh. Close enough.
