Michy Batshuayi kicked off his time in Germany in perfect style on Friday evening, with the Chelsea loanee bagging a brace and providing a match-winning assist on his debut for Borussia Dortmund in their 3-2 Bundesliga win away to Koln.
Batshuayi was part of that deadline love triangle also involving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Oliver Giroud, with the former heading to Arsenal from Dortmund and the latter moving to Chelsea from the Emirates.
The 24-year-old Belgian, who scored a very creditable 10 goals in 25 appearances for the Blues this season, opened the scoring at the Müngersdorfer Stadion on 35 minutes via a close-range finish.
Sub Simon Zoller leveled the scores on the hour-mark, only for Batshuayi to score again soon after, courtesy of a cool finish.
Jorge Mere then put the hosts back on level terms again soon after. However, Dortmund’s new striker then provided the assist for another ex-Chelsea man Andre Schurrle, who won the game for the visitors with a superb individual effort.
Quite a game and quite an introduction for Batshuayi.
A player who was arguably under-rated at Stamford Bridge, he’ll hopefully now make a serious impact on the Bundesliga this year. He certainly deserves it!
