On this day in 1997: Stelios scored Olympiacos’ first Champions League goal – and what a goal

“He’s had a fly!”

This was the first goal Olympiacos scored in the Champions League, and it happened just five minutes into their opening group match, in front of 80,000 mad-for-it fans. An epic way to open an account.

It was also a marker put down by 23-year-old Stelios, who would go on to win Euro 2004 with Greece, not to mention play for Bolton Wanderers under Big Sam for five sweet years.
