Basel 1-0 Chelsea – Champions League – 26th November 2013
Chelsea produces a rather toothless performance in Switzerland on Tuesday, eventually going down 1-0 to hosts Basel. However, with Schalke and Steaua Bucharest drawing 0-0, the west Londoners place in the knockout stages of the Champions League is now secure.
Basel were the better side for large periods of the game as the Blues failed to create too many decent chances. Indeed, Petr Cech was by far the busier of the two sides as the Swiss side pushed for a goal. That goal did eventually come, at the death, courtesy of talented striker Mohamed Salah, who headed home to bag all three points for the home side.
Chelsea might well be through to the last 16 but Jose Mourinho will be lessed than pleased by the rather limp performance by his players.
