Manchester United 3-0 Olympiakos (Agg: 3-2) – Champions League Last 16 2nd Leg – 19th March 2014
They may struggle to go much further in the competition, but Manchester United’s 3-0 Champions League win against Olympiakos has least brough some cheer to the rather gloomy Theatre of Dreams.
2-0 down from the first leg, the Red Devils were facing yet another cup exit, only for Robin Van Persie to net a hat-trick. The Dutchman netted his first from the penalty spot before making it 2-0 on half-time. However, that second vital goal came only after David De Gea had produced a superb double-save.
In the second-period, Van Persie made it 3-0 courtesy of a free-kick to earn the match ball, although the performance of old-hand Ryan Giggs was also worthy of much praise. Van Persie went off injured towards the end but even though the visitors were hardly top quality, the win lifted the spirits of the home fans.
