Manchester United 2-1 Stoke City – Premier League – 2nd December 2014
A Juan Mata free-kick secured another win for Louis Van Gaal’s revitalised Red Devils at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Marouane Fellaini had given the hosts the lead on 21 minutes, courtesy of a header, only for Stoke midfielder Steven Nzonzi to level things up just before half-time. Overall, the Potters were second-best throughout and eventually they went behind, when Mata’s curling free-kick evaded everyone in the Stoke box, including goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, and ended up in the back of the visitors’ net. Ex-United striker Mame Biram Diouf did go close a couple of times at the end of the game, but ultimately it was a deserved win for the Manchester giants.
United stay fourth while Stoke drop to 13th.
