Chelsea moved 10 points clear of second-place Arsenal on Saturday, courtesy of a trademark hard-fought, if unspectacular, victory over Manchester United (they only had 29% possession).
The Red Devils started the game well, with the in-form Ander Herrerra impressing in a deep-lying midfield role.
Wayne Rooney almost scored from a Luke Shaw centre, only for his shot to miss the Chelsea goal by a matter of inches.
After weathering an early storm, Jose Mourinho’s resilient Blues then took the lead, with Eden Hazard firing past David De Gea after a cheeky back-heeled assist from Oscar.
After the break, the league-leaders almost doubled their advantage when Hazard hit the frame of the goal after an initial effort from Didier Drogba.
Louis van Gaal’s side kept pushing for a goal, with Paddy McNair and Rooney both going close. Falcao, in a rare start, then hit the post for the Red Devils.
However, in the end Chelsea held on to tighten their grip on the 2014/15 league title.
