You took Carrick, you took Berbatov, but you’re not gonna take my Luka Modric. No way José.
Yes, there is a scary rumour that Man Utd are very, very keen to poach Modric before the summer transfer window closes. So keen in fact, that the champions would give Spurs back Michael Carrick as a sweetener, plus £10m.
Hmm, Carrick plus £10m for Modric? It’s a little tempting but I have to say no deal – Modric is essential to this new Tottenham side. The little Croatian completes a midfield quartet (Palacios, Lennon, Jenas/Huddlestone, Modric) that actually looks well-balanced – and believe me, I’ve seen enough unbalanced Spurs midfields to last a lifetime.
So I hope, along with every Spurs fan, that Arry Redknapp tells Fergie to hop it – although if Modric himself fancies a move to Old Trafford, then there’s not a lot anyone can do to stop it happening. That is a depressing thought.
