Michael Carrick is to be given a testimonial by Manchester United to reward him for his 11 years with the club.

The game, which will be played at Old Trafford, will feature a Manchester United 2008 XI which will feature the likes of Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. While Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Michael Owen will line-out for the Michael Carrick All-Stars.

The 35-year-old Carrick joined the Red Devils from Tottenham back in the summer of 2006, going on to win five Premier League titles as well as a Champions League title, an FA Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite being one of the classiest English player sof his generation, Carrick was somewhat underused by a succession of England managers, never really replicating his club form for his country and only pickup up 34 caps in total.

A technical, deep-lying midfielder, he arguably would have been more appreciated by some of the better national sides on the continent.

The testimonial will take place at Old Trafford on June 4th, with the proceeds going to Michael Carrick Foundation.

You never know, a certain Cristiano Ronaldo might even make an appearance!
