Lyon have been confirmed as champions of Ligue 1 by the coach of their nearest rivals. In the wake Lyon’s emphatic 5-0 win over Strasbourg and his side’s 2-1 defeat at Le Mans, Nancy coach Pablo Correa said: “Obviously, we can’t catch them now. I never thought we could anyway.”
While Pessimistic Pablo sinks into a deep depression, Lyon boss Alain Perrin (yes, that one) must be delighted to see his side firing on all cylinders. Kim Kallstrom (two), Juninho, Karim Benzema and Francois Clerc were on target for the champions.

Ligue 1 highlights from the weekend:

Meet PSG’s Brazilian defender Ceara who, on this evidence at least, makes Titus Bramble look like Franco Baresi. Was the mistake costly? Well, it came 15 minutes from the end in a home game that relegation-threatened PSG lost 0-1. And to make matters worse their fans had boycotted the first 15 minutes of the game in protest at their poor performances!
