Kudos are most definitely due to NK Domzale coach Luka Elsner after he used his initiative to bring in some much-needed defensive cover just as the transfer window was about to close.
Stuck with a dearth of options at full-back, 33-year-old Elsner posted an advert on professional social networking site LinkedIn looking for an “offensive right-back” with an EU passport and experience playing in a 3-4-3 formation.
Otherwise known as the Demy De Zeeuw method. Smart.
Anyway, knowing full well that a gaggle of agents followed him on LinkedIn, the Domzale boss was soon swamped with offers.
“Fifty agents follow my account,” Elsner told L’Equipe.
“I received 150 player profiles in three days. It was the best way to get as much feedback as quickly as possible.
“After sorting through we signed a Spaniard who played for Videoton in Hungary. I think we did very good business.”
The player in question? 30-year-old Alvaro Brachi, once of Espanyol’s B team.
That’s him up there. Doesn’t he look chuffed?
