We all love the sight of a goalkeeper charging forward in a desperate attempt to score a late equaliser. However, for Serie A side Benevento on Sunday, Alberto Brignoli’s foray into the AC Milan box would end in a piece of history for the struggling minnows.
Benevento came into Sunday’s clash with Milan having lost each of their first 14 games of their maiden Serie A campaign, the worst run in the history of Europe’s big five leagues.
The Rossoneri opened the scoring via Giacamo Bonaventura before George Puscas leveled the scores after the break.
Ex-Blackburn striker Nikola Kalinic put the visitors ahead once more, however, the sending off of Milan centre-half Alessio Romanogli gave Benevento hope.
The game looked to be heading towards yet another defeat for il Stregoni when, int he fifth minute of injury time, they were awarded a free-kick.
Enter Juventus loanee ‘keeper Brignoli, who duly headed home Danilo Cataldi’s free-kick to send the home fans and players wild…
😱 ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, WHEN YOU THINK YOU’VE SEEN IT ALL… 😱

After the game, Brignoli said:
I’m not just happy for me but for everyone. We’ve lost so many games undeservedly with goals in the 90th minute but now it’s our turn to celebrate.
It’s a dream to be in Serie A although we hoped that it would have turned out better than this. There was nothing to lose. I just closed my eyes and jumped. It was a goalkeeper’s goal, not a forward’s goal.
While Benevento celebrate their first-ever Serie A point, Milan, who are in a disappointing eighth place in the table continue to endure a disappointing season which saw them sack Vincenzo Montella earlier in the week and put youth team boss Gennaro Gattuso in charge.
Not a great start for the former Italy and Milan hardman!
