Cardiff City have “genuine concerns” that their new record signing, Emiliano Sala, was on board a plane that went missing while flying over the English channel.

It is feared the Argentinian striker, signed from Nantes for £15million a few days ago, was one of two people on board the plane which disappeared off Alderney on Monday night.

The Piper Malibu aircraft was due to arrive at Cardiff Airport from Nantes but disappeared en route.

The Premier League club are now seeking clarification after a search and rescue operation was launched overnight.

Rather worryingly, AFP have confirmed that Sala was one of the passengers on the plane.

The AFP report reads thus:

We learned from a police source that the plane disappeared last night about twenty kilometers north of the island of Guernsey, with Emiliano Sala inside.

The search to find the plane was interrupted during the night but resumed this (Tuesday) morning.

Jesus. Pies aren’t the praying type, but we’ve got everything crossed that they find the missing people, whether they be professional footballers or otherwise.
