Chelsea 1-1 Burnley – Premier League – 21st February 2015

Chelsea dropped two precious points against Burnley on Saturday, after a controversial clash at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues looked headed for a comfortable victory after the in-form Branislav Ivanovic netted yet another goal after great work from Eden Hazard. The league-leaders then had a couple of penalty shouts ignored by referee Martin Atkinson and as the game developed, Burnley worked hard to keep themselves in the game.

On 70 minutes, the Clarets’ chances of securing an unexpected point at the Bridge were given a boost when Nemanja Matic was shown red for reacting to a high challenge from Ashley Barnes. With the Blues down to 10 men, Sean Dyche’s visitors pushed for a leveller and on 81 minutes, the goal came courtesy of a Ben Mee header.

The result sees Chelsea’s lead at the top decrease to five points while Matic is now set to miss the Capital One Cup final against Spurs along with two league games. Burnley, on the other hand, are now 19th, with just goal difference keeping them in the drop-zone.
