Following the ridiculous scenes of Russian fans attacking stewards before their team’s game with the Czech Republic last Friday, UEFA have decided to come down (relatively) hard on the Russians.

As well as attacking the stewards, Russian fans threw fireworks and displayed dodgy banners during the game, all of which have earned the Footbal Union Of Russia a six-point suspended points deduction which will run for the entirety of the 2016 Euro Finals qualifying stages.

UEFA also threw in a  €120,000 fine. Although the Russian footballing authorities do now have time to lodge an appeal. However if that fails, then Russia supporters need to be on their very best behaviour or their chances of making it to France in 2016 could be scuppered.

So when fans attack UEFA’S stewards it’s a suspended 6-point deduction and a €120,000 fine, yet they don’t even bother to investigate the racial abuse of Gebre Selassie, De Jong and Gregory van der Wiel, saying that they’re ‘isolated incidents’. Words cannot describe.

  2. Toz says:

20K? Russia isn’t Portugal or Greece where 20K is going to bankrupt the whole nation. Definitely a lot more suffered in financial losses than 20K.

  3. Dan says:

uefa are a bunch of odious cretins, this is a nothing punishment, 120,000 is taken in if they sell a quarter of the tickets for a match in the luzhniki. and the suspended points lark is just a warning

  4. Gary C says:

Can’t really see this being much of a deterrent to the idiots causing the bother, either.

“come on lads, best not kick his head in else we’ll be docked six points in FOUR YEARS time”.

    Sigh!

  5. rich says:

    this is sickening…

  6. Boob says:

Can’t wait for 2018… Both Uefa and Fifa are placing fans in hostile and dangerous situations for financial gain.

  7. plops says:

If I was to say Polish/Ukranian fans are a bit backwards in their thinking, is that racist? Me calling them backwards racists for them being racists? (Obviously not all of them, before anyone says).

Part of me really wishes the players getting abuse walk off the pitch, followed by their team mates and ruin the entire Euros. Imagine a team walking off in a semi-final. I’d rather help banish racism than win a competition. That would really piss UEFA off, what would they do then? It would ALMOST be like the suffragettes.

  8. plops says:

Further to what I just said, I meant to say imagine if 2, 3, or 4 teams walked off the pitch because of racist abuse. Not only would UEFA’s competition be in tatters, but they would surely have to do something about it. Then again, they probably wouldn’t.

  9. d says:

they didn’t dock russian 6 points. they will if another event occurs

  10. Andrew says:

@Toz dude it’s 120K. A fiar bit more, although I admit still a paltry sum for a national governing body.
