Rochdale Name Five-Year-Old Supporter In Squad For EFL Trophy Game Against Hartlepool United

Just when you thought that the EFL Trophy couldn’t possibly any further undermined, Rochdale have gone and named a five-year-old in their squad for tonight’s game against Hartlepool United.

That said, we’ll let them off, because the wee nipper in question is young Joshua McCormack, who suffers from a terminal brain tumour.

As a show of the club’s support, Rochdale manager Keith Hill has officially included Josh on the bench as one of his seven substitutes for the Hartlepool match.

Sadly, Josh won’t actually be able to make it to Victoria Park in person, as he’s too poorly to venture out.

Instead, Rochdale have said that his shirt “will hang proudly in the dressing room” before kick-off before being draped on the bench during the game.

How fantastic!
