Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki has been named 2018/19 Championship Player of the Season at the EFL Awards, which took place on Sunday evening.

The Finnish international joined the Canaries on a free transfer last summer and has since proved himself a bargain, weighing in with 26 goals and nine assists on the way to what looks like being automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Pukki fended off competition from Sheffield United’s veteran poacher Billy Sharp (who became the leading goalscorer in the EFL this century back in January when he surpassed Rickie Lambert’s 219-goal career tally) and Birmingham City youngster Che Adams.

Norwich also saw 19-year-old right-back Max Aarons bestowed with the EFL Young Player of the Season award.

Lower down, Luton Town forward James Collins won League One Player of the Season award, while Tranmere’s James Norwood was bestowed with the League Two award.

As always, we’re not entirely sure why the EFL can’t wait until the season has actually finished to dole out their trinkets, but hey ho…

I also like that Ruben Neves has won their Goal of the year award… unsure if it’s an award for the year 2018 (should be sooner if that’s the case), or for the 1 calendar year since their last award (bit weird criteria)…
