Back in 2007, the Daily Mail’s website gazed into their crystal ball and lodged their prediction as to which promising youngsters would go on to make up the future England team…
The results? A stonking 1/11, with nine of the Mail’s future XI having won precisely zero caps between them to date. Indeed, only one player (Walcott) currently plays regular Premier League football and one (Johnson) has retired from the game altogether.
Normally we wouldn’t be so sniffy about rubbish predictions as viewed in glorious 20-20 hindsight (Christ knows we’ve cocked up enough of our own over the years!) but it’s the Mail, so…y’know…sod ‘em!
