You maybe recall, just t’other day, when we brought you the joyous news that young Murtaza Ahmadi was all but set to meet his idol Lionel Messi after a worldwide social media search to track down the five-year-old came up trumps.

Quite unbeknownst to him, Murtaza became an internet superstar when a photo of him wearing a homemade Messi shirt, lovingly crafted from a plastic bag by his older brother, was shared online thousands of times.

Messi’s own PR team eventually joined the hunt and, after locating the youngster in the southern Afghanistan, arranged a special meeting with him through the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF).

While the meeting with Messi is still in the process of being scheduled, the AFF organised for Murtaza to come down for a kick-about in Kabul on Tuesday, where he was surprised with his first ever official Barcelona replica kit.

Murtaza then took to the pitch and tested his new strip out, though his original DIY Messi shirt still took pride of place over the top…

Smashing stuff. What a little hero.

Hopefully Messi’s pulls his bloody finger out and gets this meeting sorted pronto.
