Soccer - Hillsborough 25th Anniversary Memorial Service - Anfield

25 years to the day since that awful afternoon in Sheffield, thousands of fans and well-wishers have descended upon Anfield for the Hillsborough 25th anniversary memorial service.

Following his tearful carthasis at the end of Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, Steven Gerrard and the rest of his Liverpool team-mates are in attendance along with many others whose lives were forever changed by the tragic events of April 15th, 1989.

Among the many tributes being offered, the bells of Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool Town Hall and several other churches in Merseyside were rung 96 times across the city at 15:06 during a one-minute silence.

The service is being streamed live by the BBC here for those interested. We’ll add more photos of the ceremony once they become available…
