Recognising that Liverpool were in danger of completely pulverising Leicester City and therefore undermining the strength and prestige of the Premier League title, wily old veteran Lucas Leiva made sure to keep yesterday’s game competitive by playing in Jamie Vardy for a timely consolation goal.
Feigning utter incompetence, Lucas got himself in a mess while attempting to play out from inside his own penalty box, panicked and then prodded a limp “clearance” directly across the face of goal, leaving Vardy to tap one into an unguarded net from a few yards out…
As planned, Liverpool went on to win the game comfortably, with Lucas able to laugh off his risible ricket post-match by branding it his “first assist in 10 years” at the club…
