Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Heysel disaster, which claimed the lives of 39 supporters. The poor state of the stadium and below-par policing by the Belgians contributed to the disaster, but of course without the fighting between Liverpool and Juve fans, for which a section of the former must take the greater responsibility, it wouldn’t have happened. A black, black day for European football and one that set English clubs back five years and then some.
