Manchester United stiker Javier Hernandez has joined Bayer Leverkusen for £12m.

Signs were that he wanted to stay at Old Trafford.  “Last summer it was a different situation,” Hernández, told Spain’s Marca newspaper in late June. “When Van Gaal arrived, he wanted to restructure the team and reduce the number of players.

“They weren’t playing in Europe and he preferred to focus on the Premier League. Perhaps he didn’t want many players because we wouldn’t have played, but now the situation is different.

“There will be a Champions League preliminary round to play, which means many more games.”

However, he wasn’t given the chance. The man who used to come off the bench to score a later winner for Ferguson’s swashbuckling United has left.

The Mexico international, 27, scored 59 goals in 157 matches for United. He scored nine league goals on loan at Real Madrid last season.
