‘Like basketball’ was Sir Alex’s assessment of the assorted hijinks at Old Trafford yesterday afternoon and it’s hard to fault him on that one – four decent goals, relentless end-to-end football, insane open-goal misses, fluffed penalties, hideous tackles: there wasn’t an awful lot missing, save for a troupe of can-canning burlesque chimpanzees – but you can’t have it all, now can you?
