Awful news is reaching Pies that former England manager Graham Taylor has passed away today at the age of 72.

A statement issued on behalf of the Taylor family confirmed that the ex-Watford and Aston Villa boss suffered a suspected heart attack.

With the greatest sadness, we have to announce that Graham passed away at his home early this morning of a suspected heart attack.

The family are devastated by this sudden and totally unexpected loss.

The Football League added:

We are extremely saddened to hear Graham Taylor has passed away. A genuine legend of the game.

Our thoughts are with his family.

Do we not like that. Taylor was a lovely, affable, polite and genuine fellow in a sport awash with cynicism and self-interest. He will be greatly missed.

Here’s a look back at him in his brilliant, inimitable pomp.
