Sunderland 4-0 Cardiff – Black Cats Move Out Of Drop-Zone After Four-Goal Mauling Of 10-Man Bluebirds (Photos & Highlights)

By Alan Duffy

Sunderland 4-0 Cardiff City – Premier League – 27th April 2014

On a dramatic day in the Premier League, struggling Sunderland secured a priceless three points at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, thrashing 10-man Cardiff to climb out of the drop-zone. ¬†In-form striker Connor Wickham netted a brace while he was also involved in the Black Cats’ second goal, after he was fouled in the box by Juan Cala. The Cardiff man was rather controversially sent off, with Fabio Borini converting the resulting spot-kick.

The Bluebirds were second-best throughout and shipped a fourth late on when Emanuele Giaccherini fired home. The win sees Sunderland move out of the drop-zone while Cardiff are now bottom and looking likely to go down.
