Last we heard, Liverpool had knocked back a frankly exorbitant €100million bid from Barcelona to take Philippe Coutinho off their hands.

As if turning down that kind of money wasn’t enough to their resolve to hold onto their star man, Liverpool’s owners have now sought to quickly and efficiently snuff out Barca’s obsessive pursuit by issuing a strongly-worded statement.

As issued on the Liverpool website this morning, Fenway Sports Group roared:

We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho.

The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.

Let that be an end to it.

Certainly, that scathing 44-word war cry from FSG should be enough to send Barca whimpering back to the drawing board in their search for a replacement Brazilian poster boy.

After all, it’s not like the Catalans have a long and storied history of ignoring all protocol while systematically unsettling players by any means until they eventually get what they want.
