Spanish Supercopa: Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona (Agg. 4-4) – Madrid Take First Clasico Blood On Away Goals (Photos & Highlights)
By Chris Wright
Despite getting off to a fairly naff start to the season, Real Madrid got their grubby hands on the first trophy of 2012/13 and their first Supercopa since 2008 – overturning a 3-2 deficit from the first leg to pip Barcelona on away goals.
Real found themselves 2-0 after 20 minutes with both Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo (only just) profiting from some decidedly lapse Barca defending, before Adriano was shown a straight red for sending Ronaldo sprawling while clean through on goal just seven minutes later.
Barca pulled one back on the very brink of half-time when Lionel Messi dispatched a lovely free-kick past Iker Casillas from 25 yards, but Madrid (with Luka Modric coming on for the last five minutes to make his debut) held out at 4-4 and took the trinket courtesy of their superior away goal count.
