Bib-Wearing Substitute Interrupts Warm-Up To Make Heroic, But Sadly Illegal, Goal-Line Clearance (Video)

By Chris Wright

Spotted during last week’s spellcheck-battering Iranian second division tie between Nassaji Mazandaran and Shahrdari Yasuj, in which one of Yasuj’s substitute senses impending danger following a calamitous defensive cock-up and curtails his warm-up behind the goal to make an heroic, last-ditch goal-saving clearance from underneath his own crossbar…

Nice that he still used his head. The man’s obviously got principles.

Weirdly, the meddling substitute was sent off while Nassaji were only bestowed with a free-kick inside the box rather than the goal being allowed to stand – not that it mattered much in the end, they still won 2-0.

Was that just a yellow card?! And an indirect kick was awarded?! Wow, every team should just have their substitutes stand by the goal and block any breakaway goals moving forward.

Who even needs a goalkeeper anymore? Just put him (and several backup goalkeepers) in the substitutes and hop in the match, when needed.
