“Mixed fortunes” is probably the best description of Antonio Candreva’s afternoon at work on Sunday, with the Lazio midfielder enduring a bit of a bitter-sweet 78 minutes at the coal face against Palermo.
Why only 78 minutes, you ask? That’s because, immediately after he scored what proved to be Lazio’s winning goal, Candreva had to be taken off after he accidentally wrote-off his knee while attempting to celebrate his superb angled drive with the fans.
Leaping over the advertising hoardings to revel with his people, Candreva slipped during his approach and duly collided patella-first with the large, heavy security fencing behind the goal…

Ouch.
Fortunately, Candreva’s injuries weren’t overly serious, with Lazio manager Stefano Pioli wryly confirming as much after the game.
“Fortunately it doesn’t appear to be anything serious,” quipped Piolo.
“Anyway, I prefer all injuries to be accompanied by a winning goal.”
