The true beauty of a Panenka penalty is that it’s equally entertaining when it goes wrong, something Luis Seijas knows all about. During Venezuela’s Copa America quarter-final clash with Argentina, the midfielder produced one of the most feeble spot-kick efforts you are ever likely to see.
Argentina were 2-0 up when, on 42 minutes, the Venezuelans were awarded a penalty and a precious opportunity to get back into the game. However, while Seijas showed major cojones to attempt a Panenka at such a pivotal moment in the game, his lame effort was gently lofted into the arms of a grateful Sergio Romero, who wasn’t fooled by the cheeky effort…
Is this the most pathetic panenka attempt in the #CopaAmerica last night? Jesus…https://t.co/PuHNUNzxkn

Gerardo Martino’s side would go on to win 4-1, with second-half goals from Lionel Messi and Erik Lamela adding to Gonzalo Higuain’s first-half strikes. However, it could have been very different if Seijas had chosen a more reliable and less risky (but far less fun) choice of spot-kick execution.
