Hosts France and Switzerland played out an entertaining but goalless draw in Lille on Sunday night. Much has been made of the poor quality of the pitches during EURO 2016 so far, and the turf in the Stade Pierre-Mauroy was no better, with many players slipping throughout the game.

However, as well as the poor playing surface, a number of Swiss players had to contend with rather flimsy shirts.

Arsenal’s new-signing Granit Xhaka went through three different shirts after skirmishes with the French players left them in tatters. Xhaka’s team-mates Admir Mehmedi and Breel Embolo also saw their jersey’s shredded in what was a massive PR fail for PUMA…

As well the pitch and the shirts, Sunday nights game also saw one of the balls burst by the (apparently very sharp) studs of Valon Behrami…

Not a great night for the producers of football’s tools of the trade!

A lot of people reporting the shirts as a fail by Puma, whereas I think it was a genius move by the Swiss to show the ref how much shirt tugging the French are up to.

It was only four ripped shirts? I could have swore I counted five.

If I was a Swiss fan I’d be scared to put my shirt in the wash, the Persil might act like acid on it.

How is it a genius move? Did they have special edition weakened shirts for the occasion or what?
