In which a Polish lad betrays his former homeland
Two goals – the second was a cracking strike – by Polish-born Lukas Podolski gave the Germans the ideal start to Euro 2008. Before the tournament began, I tipped him to win the Golden Shoe, but of course I didn’t act on my own advice. D’oh.
The Germans looked ominously strong and no one – not even any of the fervent Poles that frequent this site – could argue that they didn’t deserve to win. Poland can at least take heart that the other two teams in Group B, Croatia and Austria, didn’t look so hot.
