Seven-Year Old English Urchin Kai Fifield Earns Barcelona Trial After Holiday Kickabout (Video)

By Chris Wright

Apologies for the awful sound quality…

Here’s a story to warm your shrivelled, cynical cockles. Seven-year old sprog Kai Fifield landed himself a trial with Barcelona after scouts from the Spanish giants happened to spot the urchin from Northampton having a kickabout with a group of older boys whilst on holiday with his old man in the Catalan city.

Apparently, the Barca reps spoke with Firfield’s father, Delaney, and invited him to attend a trial at the club’s first-team training ground, meaning that the pair’s travel plans had to be rescheduled, as they were due to fly home the next day.

However, we imagine that will matter little if Kai snares himself a spot at Barca’s academy in September, when the verdict on his trial is returned in a couple of weeks.

Said wee Kai himself: “It felt like something really football-y, and bigger than I expected. It was exciting, very…exciting.”

And who can argue with that?

when the barca rep saw him go down easily for the third time in 10 minutes, the attraction was palpable. now all they gotta do instill the snobbery

Nice bit of self promotion by the ol’ man. The kid’s got good skill, but not exceptional. I reckon there are dozens more his age running around with better skills.

  9. Tom Jones says:

Shameful exploition of youth as usual by the filthy Catalans.

  10. Gzm says:

    @ Tom Jones

How is it ‘shameful exploitation of youth’? He was simply given a trial with the club, nice thing to give him the opportunity.
