Arsenal 2-0 Everton – Premier League – 1st February 2015
Arsenal steadied the ship after their midweek Champions League trauma with a hard-fought win at home to Everton.
The Gunners were hardly at their best but a first-half goal from Olivier Giroud, one of the misfiring villains from that defeat against Monaco, and a second-half effort from Tomas Rosicky secured a vital three points. Everton had a couple of chances to score themselves, with Romelu Lukaku thwarted by a superb David Ospina stop in the second-half but overall the Toffees didn;t do enough in the final third.
As well as securing the three points which sees Arsenal move to within four points of second-placed Man City, Arsene Wenger will also be pleased by the performances of defender Gabriel and Mesut Ozil, who provided the assist to both goals. As for Roberto Martinez, his Everton side are now just six points clear of the drop-zone.
