Theo Walcott fired Arsenal into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after a 1-0 win against League One side Doncaster Rovers at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger made 11 changes from the side that drew 0-0 with Chelsea at the weekend, with Jack Wilshere starting in midfield and Ainlsey Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson on the flanks.
Olivier Giroud almost scored his 100th goal for the Gunners early on, with the Frenchman’s superb overheaded kick coming back off the frame of the goal.
The opener would eventually come on 25 minutes with Theo Walcott lifting the ball over ‘keeper Ian Lawlor after a superb pass from Alexis Sanchez.
The Gunners finished the half looking in control, with Wilshere shining in the middle of the pitch.
However, in the second period, the host became increasingly ragged, allowing Darren Ferguson’s side to seriously threaten David Ospina’s goal.
Matty Blair came closest to scoring for Donny, with his header coming back off the bar late on.
However, the Gunners would hold on to book their place in the fourth round, where’ll they’ll host Norwich.
Most pleasing of all for Wenger will be seeing Jack Wilshere complete the full 90 minutes for Arsenal for the first time since September 2014.
Maybe Wilshere still has a genuine future with the north Londoners after all?
