Soccer - International Friendly - England v Germany - Wembley Stadium

Thanks to the FA’s new sponsorship deal with broadband-mongers EE, the “iconic” arch over Wembley stadium is to get an interactive makeover, with a newly-fitted, state-of-the-art LED system meaning the structure will be able to react to fluctuating social media trends during games.

Quite honestly, we don’t know how we got through that without gipping.

Anyway, thanks to a rig consisting of  228 large-scale LED floodlights capable of blending to create millions of colour combinations, the arch will be able to illuminate when goals are scored or to reflect the club colours of anyone or anything trending on social media.

For example: if Jordan Henderson picks up the ball in midfield during an England game, the whole thing just goes a shitty shade of brown.

This from the Guardian:

The arch will also react to social media trends during a match or event.

This could reflect a particular team trending with the arch showing their colours – a live barometer showing fans’ tweets to a question asked in commentary or at half-time.”

Great stuff.

The interactive LED system will be up and running in time for the Capital One Cup Final (scheduled for 1st March) and therefore England’s first game under the new interactive arch will be their Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania on 27th March.

We can’t wait.
