Manchester City 3-0 Crystal Palace – Premier League – 20th December 2014

With James Milner filling in up front for striker-less Manchester City, the Citizens overcame a well-0rganised Crystal Palace side at the Etihad in Saturday’s early game.

After a first-half in which the Eagles’ solid defending frustrated the home side, the hosts eventually made the breakthrough on 49 minutes. The superb David Silva was the scorer of that opener, with his effort deflecting in off Scott Dann. The Spanish schemer then doubled his side’s advantage on the hour-mark following an Aleksandar Kolarov centre. However, the Eagles then saw James McArthur’s perfectly good headed goal wrongly chalked off by Phil Dowd for offside. Yaya Touré then sealed the deal for the Citizens with a fine strike on 81 minutes.

City join league leaders Chelsea on 39 points (the Blues play on Monday) while Palace are 16th.
