I’ve never rated Darron Gibson that highly, but boy, he has a wicked shot on him. Whether that’s enough for him to make the grade at United, I’m not sure.
Gibson is 22 now and you’d think he might have played more for United’s first team by now, but perhaps this man-of-the-match performance will be the turning point in his Old Trafford career. Fergie was certainly impressed by the Northern Ireland international’s star turn:
“He’s the one player now at our club who can get a goal for us outside the box. He has tremendous power in his shooting and his second goal in particular was fantastic.
“To me, the two stars tonight were Gibson and Anderson. They did very well. Anderson started to impose himself in the second half. He’s very quick and powerful and when he does that he’s a handful.”
For their part, a near-full-strength Spurs never got going – Arry Redknapp was so annoyed with his side’s lame display that he ducked out of the post-match press conference. Very disappointing for all Yids – that’s a realistic shot at silverware gone.
