Harry Kane bagged a brace as Tottenham battered a fragile Liverpool side on Sunday afternoon, in front of 80,827 fans, a Premier League record.

Spurs got off to the perfect start, when Kieran Trippier’s chipped pass catching out Dejan Lovren and setting up Kane, who rounded Simon Mignolet and slotted home.

It took only eight minutes for the hosts to double their advantage, with Lovren once again at fault, this time totally misjudging Hugo Lloris’ long throw, leaving Kane to set up Son Heung-min.

Despite that early setback, Liverpool got themselves back into the game on 24 minutes, with Mohamed Salah racing onto a superb Jordan Henderson pass and firing past Lloris.

Lovren’s nightmare afternoon ended after just 31 minutes, with Jurgen Klopp replacing the defender with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as he looked to get this side back on level terms.

However, it was Tottenham who would score again just before the break, with Dele Alli volleying in from 18 yards.

After the break, Kane ended the contest, netting after Mignolet had initially failed to clear a free-kick.

The Reds went close to getting one back when Philippe Coutinho saw his shot pushed onto the frame of the goal by Lloris.

However, ultimately the Reds would lose the game 4-1, with their defensive frailties once again letting them down.

Tottenham go third, level on points with Manchester United and five behind leaders Man City.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are ninth, courtesy of their paltry haul of just 13 points from their nine games.
