Soares, who was born in Germany but has four Portugal caps to his name, is a 23-year-old right-back who signs for Saints from Sporting Lisbon on a four-year deal for nowt.
We’d be lying if we told you we’d ever heard of him before but apparently he’s a solid citizen, at least according to Pies’ Portuguese football nark. Nothing fancy, nothing jarringly amiss, we’re told.
Whether or not Soares is being brought in as a direct replacement for up-for-grabs-right-back-de-rigueur Nathaniel Clyne remains to be seen as Manchester United and, more prominently, Liverpool, continue to circle over the England defender’s head.
