Rumours have been percolating for several weeks but it looks like one of the most unlikely transfer deals of the window so far may just be edgding towards completion.
According to the BBC, Crystal Palace have summoned up the chutzpah to lodge a £10million bid (rising to £13million with add-ons) for PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye, and the Ligue 1 champions have only gone and bloody well accepted it!
With Cabaye’s big £19million move from Newcastle to PSG in Janaury 2014 panning out just about as well as everybody expected, the 29-year-old French international found his opportunities limited last season and is mulling over his escape options.
Indeed, Cabaye made just 13 starts last season and lo, it would appear that the promise of a reunion with Alan Pardew, who originally signed Cabaye from Lille in 2011 while in charge at Newcastle, has proved enough to persuade the midfielder to lower his expectations slightly and return to the Premier League.
As such, he is expected to undergo a medical with Palace “within the next 48 hours”.
Should Palace manage to pull this one off, and an incredible signing it would be for them, then Cabaye would become their record signing – eclipsing the £7million they paid Wigan for James McArthur last summer.
Once again, all hail the power of the Premier League TV money!
