We suspect there are plenty of Middlesbrough fans out there that would tell you it’d probably take a monumental fluke for Lee Dong-Gook to score a 40-yard top thumper, and that’s just how the South Korean striker came about scoring a stonking “equaliser” for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors against Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in the K League Classic last night.
With ten minutes left and his side down 2-1, Lee was charged with returning the ball to the Seongnam ‘keeper Jeon Sang-Wook following an injury hiatus, but the former Boro striker overcooked the pass and ended up accidentally zonking a shot over Jeon and into the goal to level up the scores – albeit entirely unwittingly.
The Seongnam players then played bally hell with the Jeonbuk Motors players until the dust settled and the away side agreed to roll in a complimentary own-goal to right their ridiculous wrong…
For the record, Seongnam went on to win 3-2.
