Already leading 1-0 after the first leg, Preston North End did a bit of a number on Chesterfield in the second leg of their League One play-off semi-final at Deepdale on Sunday, spanking the Spireites 3-0 and thus booking themselves a berth in the Wembley final in fine style.
Having scored the only goal of the game in the first meeting between the two sides, Jermaine Beckford helped himself to a couple more on home soil – the second of which just so happening to be an absolute belter from around about the half-way line in the 87th minute…
As the old saying goes: If you’re going to add a flourish to a play-off semi victory, why not do it from 55 yards out?
To wit, this was all coming exactly one year to the day that Preston’s Joe Garner scored his equally outstanding wonder goal against Rotherham in last year’s play-off semi finals…
Time has not diminished it’s beauty, that’s for sure.
Preston certainly know how to get their collective semi on.
