As cobbled together by Spanish TV show Fiebre Maldini earlier in the week, here’s a few classic swatches of footage showing Jose Mourinho during his Barcelona days, doing his level best to translate for then-manager Sir Bobby Robson.

The pair manfully bat away questions at a succession of press conferences, with Sir Bobby mulching his way through two or three different languages – four if you count unintelligible gibberish – in his own inimitable style…

There isn’t a day goes by that we don’t miss having Bobby in and around the game. Everything else just seems so stale in comparison.

(Many thanks to Pies fan Peter Jones, @peterjonesphoto, for the tip-off!)

As a card-carrying Toon fan, I’m a bit biased here, but how British managers do you see nowadays that at least try (interpreter or otherwise) to have a go at a foreign language? A few bilingual ones aside, all they seem to do nowadays is affect a silly accent. He might have become a bit grandfather like in his old age, but Christ – what a bloke. Cheers, Chris. And thanks for inadvertently unveiling the ongoing saga that is the Jose Mourinho haircut.

Jose looks as if he’s plotting to sell you a pair of fake Italian glasses and ArmanY suit.

A young Caesar if you will
