Back in the Premier League after just one season in the second-tier, Championship title-winners Burnley celebrated their success on Tuesday with a classic open-top bus parade around the town. However, when the medals were given out, a couple of players were left embarrassingly empty-handed, included the club’s player of the year, Joey Barton.

The 33-year-old stood forward to receive his Championship-winner’s medal, only to be told that the Football League had run out, leaving two of the 27-man squad empty-handed…

The club themselves took responsibility for the mix-up, admitting that they had put forward the 27 players despite knowing that only 25 medals were available.

Barton took to Twitter to bemoan the situation which also saw defender James Tarkowski miss out…

You can always rely on Barton making the headlines one way or the other!

Can anybody tell Rouwen Hennings to come back to my club? We scored 34 goals in 33 matches. Our rock-solid defence is worth nothing without you getting the other job done, rouwen! It’s a disgrace.
