David Bentley is apparently paying the price for refusing to play in the recent U-21 European Championships by being omitted from Steve McLaren’s England squad to face Germany next week.
Blackburn manager, Mark Hughes confirmed that he spoke to the England manager regarding the club’s and Bentley’s decision to get some rest this summer by snubbing England’s U-21s. “Steve McLaren said that was part of it, there was a price to pay and he said David has paid it this time,†he said.
It’s a shame since Bentley seems to have proved he made the right decision with some sparkling performances already down the wing this season, especially against MyPa 47 last night. And, with Becks still not fully fit, it would have been an ideal time to give him some experience?
Snubbing England didn’t stop McLaren from begging Jamie Carragher to return, so is he right to ignore Bentley?
