These two heavyweights produced a superb encounter in Saturday’s early game, with an end-to-end game producing four goals and a whole load of talking points.

Despite seeing the hosts start the better it was City who took the lead on 28 minutes after great play from Jesus Navas, Prior to that goal Danny Welbeck, on his Gunners’ debut, hit the post after chipping Joe Hart. However, Welbeck’s England team-mate Jack Wilshere, who was superb throughout, eventually leveled the scores in the second-half courtesy of a clever dribble and dink.

The Gunners took the lead on 74 minutes, with Wilshere’s headed assist finding Alexis Sanchez who volleyed home brilliantly.  This goal came after the midfielder looked to have handled the ball in his own box, only for ref Mark Clattenburg to wave play on. However, any hopes the Gunners had of securing a fin victory were scuppered when Martin Demichelis rose unmarked late on to head home the final goal of the game.

The Citizens pushed for a winner at the end, with Aleksandar Kolarov and Edin Dzeko both hitting the post but ultimately the game would end in a draw.

Probably a fair result for both sides, although the loss of Mathieu Debuchy to what looked like a serious ankle injury will have concerned Arsene Wenger.
